53rd KEEPIT KOOL REGATTA 11, 12 and 13 June 2022

    1. Lake Keepit Sailing Club invites you to its Keepit Kool Regatta, June Long Weekend
    2. Hosted on Lake Keepit, seven kilometers off the Oxley Highway between Tamworth and Gunnedah.
    3. Log fires limited hot showers, excellent facilities with catering by LKSC. Good showers are available at adjacent Reflections Holiday Park.
    4. Endless space for rigging, launching, and parking. Lake Keepit Inland Holiday Park (02 6769 7605) has cabins and powered sites.
    5. Lake Keepit Inland Holiday Park - plenty to do for all the family; fishing, tennis, BMX track, skateboarding and walking tracks.
    6. The Club will cater for all meals from Saturday tea to Monday lunch,(Limited to 80 packages due to capacity of facilities for dinner).The Reflections Holiday Park kiosk will also be open
    7. Saturday/Sunday evening entertainment for all ages.

NOTICE OF RACE

  1. General
    1. The Organising Authority will be the Lake Keepit Sailing Club and the regatta will be conducted under the authority of Australian Sailing (AS).
    2. The regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024 and the Prescriptions and Special Regulations of Australian Sailing (AS) – Part 2 will apply, all as modified by this Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions. If there is a conflict between the NOR and the SIs, the SIs shall prevail.
    3. Arbitration will be available and conducted in accordance with RRS Appendix T.
    4. The event will be conducted by Lake Keepit Sailing Club on the waters of Lake Keepit.

 

  1. Responsibility
    1. Attention is drawn to RRS Fundamental Rule 3, which states, “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone”. By participating in an event each competitor agrees and acknowledges that sailing is a potentially dangerous activity with inherent risks. These risks include strong winds and rough seas, sudden changes in weather, failure of equipment, boat handling errors, poor seamanship by other boats, loss of balance on an unstable platform and fatigue resulting in increased risk of injury. Inherent in the sport of sailing is the risk of permanent, catastrophic injury or death by drowning, trauma, hypothermia, or other causes.
    2. Attention is drawn to RRS Fundamental Rule 1, which states, ‘A boat, competitor or support person shall give all possible help to any person or vessel in danger.’ If you are close to a person overboard, you are obligated to assist them until the safety boat arrives (redress will be given accordingly). Note that the Clubhouse, committee boat and safety boats can be called for assistance on 27Mhz Channel 94.
    3. Life jackets (PFDs) are to be worn by all sailors on the water at all times.

    1. Regatta to be held at Lake Keepit on 11 to 13 June 2022.

Race 5                         First warning signal not before 1400, Sunday

Race 6                         First warning signal not before 09:00, Monday, 13 June

On the final day of racing, Monday, 13 June, no warning signal shall be made after 13:00.

All races will be a combination of triangles and windward/returns, with the exception of Race 5, which will be a ‘river’ course, conditions permitting.

  1. Entry Requirements
    1. All classes of off the beach boats are welcome: monohulls, multihulls, sports boats and trailable yachts (conditions apply). Some classes may be separated into divisions based on performance.
    2. All competing boats must have liability insurance cover of at least $5 million.
    3. All competitors must have a current Australian Sailing Membership or have registered for Sailpass (available through the Lake Keepit Sailing Club website).
    4. Entry fees per boat are $60 single handed, $70 double handed and $80 fully crewed, which also covers inclusion in the draw for prizes. Junior (skipper and crew under 18 on Saturday, 11 June) entry fee per boat is $30. Catering packages are $120 (Limited to 80 packages due to capacity of facilities for dinner) . Catering order forms attached, to be emailed or handed in at registration. Camping is $15 per adult per night.

    6. Catering packages and camping fees can also be paid for during the registration process, Limited to 80 packages due to capacity of facilities for dinner. Prior booking and payment required with registration.
    7. Entry fees can be paid by direct deposit, debit or credit card or cheque as detailed in the registration process (https://www.lakekeepitsailingclub.com.au/events/) or in cash at registration. Prior payment is preferred.
  2. Scoring
    1. A minimum of three races will constitute a regatta.
    2. Series will be scored using the Low Point Scoring System outlined in RRS 90.3 and RRS Appendix A.
    3. When fewer than five races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of all its race scores. When five or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of its race scores excluding her worst score.
    4. The overall winner will be calculated by correcting the elapsed times of the winners of each class/division in each race, and scoring them accordingly.
    5. RRS 90.3 (e) shall apply.
  3. Prizes

6.1 Prizes will be awarded for first place in each fleet or division plus the overall winner.

  1. Handicaps

7.1 Handicaps will be based on the Australian Class Based Handicap for sports boats and trailable yachts and Australian Sailing Yardsticks for monohulls and multihulls.
